The competition schedule for the Vanuatu Cricket Association’s 2022 domestic season has been released.
Featuring a record 30+ senior and age group domestic competitions, across Efate and Santo, with the first competition starting on the 5th of February.
The first competition will be the inaugural women’s smash 6`s in Port Vila, which will kick start the 2022 schedule.
Santo will also have more cricket than ever before this season with a planned 6 domestic competitions set to go ahead there alongside the prospective development of new cricket grounds, there and on Tanna.
Vanuatu Cricket operations manager, Jamal Vira, stated:
“The association has been progressing nicely and we definitely want to start growing our programs across the board. Part of that process is the development of domestic competitions and grounds in the outer islands”
“Cricket is harder than most sports to develop grounds for though and given some of the specific equipment and ground sizes cricket requires in addition to funding, we have never really been able to progress beyond developing grounds within Port Vila. However, we have some new prospective partners who we really believe can help us grow the sport in these other regions”
“The men’s domestic season will begin in April with T20 Club Championship but will finish earlier than normal given the International schedule the Holiday Inn Vanuatu National Men’s Cricket Team have towards the back end of the year,” Vira adds.
The VCA have also announced the prospect of having a Sunday league for Seventh Day Adventists, the revival of the mid-week “Bisnis Haos Lig” and finally a Men’s and Women’s North vs South Province of Origin to end the 2022 Domestic Season.
