Staff from the Vanuatu Cricket Association (VCA) recently participated in a safeguarding workshop hosted by the Vanuatu Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (VASANOC) at the Melanesian Hotel. The workshop, fully funded by VASANOC, aimed to strengthen safeguarding policies across national sports federations to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all athletes.
Led by Pam Ryan and Adam Tumakon, the sessions focused on protecting athletes and sporting participants from harm, abuse, and discrimination. Representing VCA were Operations Manager Jamal Vira, Development Outreach Officers Daniel Nais (Tanna) and Jonas Piloe (Santo/Malekula), and Social Impact and Inclusion Manager Mary Mahuk. They engaged in discussions and interactive sessions to equip federations with best practices in athlete welfare and protection.
Safeguarding in sports is crucial in fostering a safe training and competition environment free from abuse, harassment, and exploitation. Clear reporting mechanisms empower athletes to speak up against misconduct, strengthening the integrity of sports organisations.
VCA remains committed to upholding a culture of safety, respect, and inclusion, with its participation in this workshop reaffirming its dedication to athlete welfare and protection.
