Vanthorpe Cricket Team Secures Spot in SDCA & ICOMPLY 20/20 League Finals


The Vanthorpe cricket team, made up of Vanuatu cricket players in Stanthorpe, has earned a spot in the SDCA & ICOMPLY 20/20 Cricket League Finals last weekend. The team, who balance seasonal work with their love for cricket with support from iComply, has gone undefeated in the competition. On Saturday, they kept their winning streak alive with back-to-back victories against Valleys and Wanderers.


Strong Win Against Wanderers In their first match, Vanthorpe defeated Wanderers with a commanding 10-wicket victory. Chasing a target of 96 runs, Vanthorpe’s batsmen showed great skill, reaching the target easily in just 7 overs. Earlier, their bowlers did an excellent job, limiting the Wanderers to a low score with standout performances including a 3-wicket haul from Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu national women’s player Nasimana Navaika who had an economy of 2.50. As well as Andrew Mansale once again made a 50-run milestone, after making 59 runs off just 21 balls and a strike rate of 280.95.



Exciting Match Against Valleys In the afternoon, Vanthorpe faced Valleys in a hard-fought match. Batting first, Valleys were bowled out for just 80 runs in the 18th over, thanks to Vanthorpe's disciplined bowling and sharp fielding. Vanthorpe chased down the target in 10.3 overs, finishing with 71 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, sealing another impressive victory.



Looking Ahead to the Finals Vanthorpe’s outstanding performance this season has inspired fans and highlighted the strength of Vanuatu cricket. They will face Valleys again in the finals this Saturday, December 21, aiming to bring home the trophy.
