The next generation of Vanuatu men’s cricketers will be hitting off the 2024 cricket season this weekend at the Vanuatu Cricket Grounds and will see four U19 teams, namely, Splashe Mele Bulls, Tafea Cricket Club, Mighty Saints, and Tusker Panthers face off to claim the U19 Men’s T20 Club Championship. The competition will run from 9 AM every Saturday from the 27th of February and will conclude mid-March. The men’s competition will then be followed by the U19 Women’s T20 Club Championship.
The upcoming competitions are a pivotal moment for both the men's and women's U19 cricketers, offering a platform for these young talents to exhibit and refine their skills. With the prospect of representing Vanuatu on the international stage, the stakes are high. The men's national U19 team is set to tour Samoa later in the year, participating in the Men's U19 T20 East Asia Pacific World Cup Qualifier. The event will be an opportunity for the team to showcase their abilities and make their mark on the global stage.
Operations Manager, Jamal Vira commented:
“The Vanuatu Cricket Association is really looking forward to developing local talent that will feed our High-Performance programs and encourage healthy living and active lifestyles. The competition will be a show of some of the best age group talent available in Vanuatu and with the U19 World Cup Qualifiers later this year it is a great chance for the kids to put their hands up for selection.”
All cricket matches are free to watch, and the public is welcome to do so. Match schedules and updates can also be found on the Vanuatu Cricket social media pages.
