The Vanuatu Cricket Association is pleased to bring another year of the PCS Independence Cup in partnership with Power & Communication Solutions who have been sponsoring this celebratory competition for the last three years. This year’s competition is extra special because Vanuatu Cricket will also be commemorating Vanuatu’s 40th birthday as an independent nation. The PCS Independence Cup is featuring 6 women’s teams and 7 men’s team. The teams are Mele Bulls, Paama Sharks, Ifira Black Birds, Tafea, Mighty Saints and Power House consisting of both men and women’s teams and the addition of the North Efate Bush Pigs as the seventh team in the men’s category. The competition kicked off on Saturday July 11 with the knockout rounds however, adverse weather has caused the men’s knockouts to be postponed to Saturday July 18th. Three knockout matches were played on Saturday July 11 to determine the semi finalists of the women’s cup. Mele Bulls women defeated Ifira Black Birds to secure the first semi final spot and are joined by Mighty Saints who defeated Paama Sharks followed by Power House after defeating Tafea women. Tafea women were the best losing team of the knockouts with the highest net run rate allowing them to advance as the fourth semi-finalist of the Women’s PCS Independence Cup. The women’s semi-final will be played at 10:00am this coming Saturday July 18th to determine the two finalists. The women’s semi-final fixtures are as follows.
In the men’s fixtures happening this Saturday July 18th, the knockout matches will be played in a T10 format to make up for the canceled matches last weekend. The matches will start at 8:30am local time to determine which teams will progress to the second semi-final spot of the PCS Independence Cup which will be played at 1:00pm local time on the same day. Tafea Men and Mele Bulls have already secured their spot in the semi-final and the winners from the two knockout matches will determine the contenders for the second semifinal spot. All semifinal matches for both men and women will be played at the Vanuatu Cricket Grounds on Saturday July 18th with the women’s matches starting at 10:00am and the men’s at 1:00pm.
