The Men’s 40 Over Community Cup came to a thrilling conclusion last Friday, with the Independence Park team claiming a hard-fought victory to take home the champion’s prize of 20,000 Vatu.
Mele secured second place and a 15,000 Vatu reward, followed by Seaside in third place with 10,000 Vatu. D’Yorke rounded out the standings in fourth place, earning 5,000 Vatu. The tournament featured intense competition among the four participating teams, showcasing the vibrant spirit of community cricket in Port Vila.
The awards were presented by Pierre Chilia, Development Manager for Port Vila Cricket, during the 2024 Vanuatu Cricket Awards. Chilia praised the players and their dedication throughout the tournament.
“Participating in an event such as the 40 over competition provides an opportunity for youth in the communities in and around Port Vila to compete and have fun at the same time. The Vanuatu Cricket Association wishes to acknowledge the four communities for their participation in the 40 over competition and we look forward to seeing them again next year.” he said.
The Men’s 40 Over Community Cup marked the final event of Port Vila’s cricket competitions for 2024. Reflecting on the year, Chilia highlighted the growth of community participation and expressed optimism for an even more exciting calendar in 2025.
The cricketing community now looks forward to new initiatives and tournaments that will build on the momentum from this year’s achievements.
