The Holiday Inn Vanuatu National U19 Men's Cricket Team is poised to embark on a pivotal journey as they head to Apia, Samoa, to compete in the ICC East Asia Pacific (EAP) Division 2 U19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier. This highly anticipated tournament, taking place from August 4th to 11th, 2024, represents a significant opportunity for the team to secure a place in the next stage of qualifiers, slated for early 2025.
Leading the charge is Captain Curran Kendrick, who will guide a talented squad comprising Roderick Lekai, Surya Lekai, Gregory Wotu, Langdale Tamalua, Waane Sirovulu, Joshia Lental, Jeimy Kaiaha, Justin Sarginson, Graig Melten, Walley Mansale, Charlie Jacob, Daniel Nathaniel, and Sebastien Richard. The team is under the expert guidance of Head Coach Ronald Tari and Team Manager Peter Duffy, both of whom have played crucial roles in preparing the players for this crucial event.
Reflecting on the team's preparation, Coach Ronald Tari expressed his confidence in the squad, stating, "It's been a long journey for these boys over the past year, marked by a tough selection process which meant we had to leave a few boys at home, but thats the nature of High Performance sport and I know they will grow from that. Our focus now is on maintaining our work ethic and striving to perform at our best every day. They are a great group of boys, and I am immensely proud of their progress. I have no doubt they will make Vanuatu proud on this international stage."
The stakes are high, as the outcome of this tournament will determine the team's participation in the next qualifier round, where they will compete against strong contenders like Japan and Fiji. This journey is not just about the matches but also about showcasing the team's growth and resilience, building upon their experiences from previous competitions, including their last outing in Darwin, Australia.
