The inaugural Smash Sixes High Performance League headlines Vanuatu Cricket’s start to the domestic season. With eight teams all competing in a six-over, six-a-side thriller, every game is expected to be jam packed with excitement.
Ahead of Saturday’s 9AM start at the Vanuatu Cricket Ground we break down some of tomorrow's headline games.
AVENGERS vs THUNDER (VCG 2, 9AM)
Alvina Chilia and Rachel Andrew will be the big battle in this clash. Chilia and Andrew’s power hitting should be the main attraction with much also expected of Thunder all rounder Shania Kenni and Avengers wicket keeper Gillian Chilia as well. Our prediction, Thunder win.
SIXERS vs AMIGOS (VCG 1, 9AM)
The clash of the round. Superstar Selina Solman is out of this one handing a massive boost to the sixers and Valenta Langiatu’s side. All rounders Ruth Kaltongga and Melissa Fare will now be handed the big job of keeping Langiatu quiet and pushing the Amigos through whilst quick Vicky Mansale will be aiming to begin with a few scalps and a big win for the Sixers. Our prediction, without Solman, an extremely tight fixture that could go either way, a nailbiter.
ISLANDERS vs WICKET DIVAS (VCG 2, 10AM)
Malonie Vatoko and Marcelina Mete will be looking to fire the Islanders to a quick start against the Wicket Divas and Judy Avok who host arguably one of the tournament's weaker sides. However with the likes of all rounder Kyla Niras playing for the Divas anything is possible in this wildcard fixture. Our prediction, Islanders win.
MELE vs YOUNGIES (VCG1, 10AM)
In the battle of youth, Mele’s Leimara Tastuki, will most likely have to carry her team through against the Youngies' strong bowling outfit which includes sisters Maeva and Vanessa Vira both just 15 and 16 years old respectively. Maiylise Carlot captains the Youngies and should be the main source of runs with the bat whilst Mele will again rely on Tastuki to provide for them here. Our prediction, barring an upset, the Youngies should get through this challenge.
The Smash Sixes starts Saturday the 5th at 9AM and will host a total of eight games each matchday through to the final on the 26th of February
